nVoq and Mi-Co Offer Voice-Enabled Mobile Forms to Healthcare Industry

When Apple’s (News - Alert) Siri was introduced last year, free-form speech recognition exploded in the mainstream. But, using voice recognition to call a friend or find a restaurant isn’t the only use of the innovative technology. These days, voice recognition software similar to Siri is being used in the medical field too. Using speech recognition for not just transcription and dictation, but clinical decision support, will take voice to the next level.

nVoq Incorporated, a provider of Web-based solutions using voice recognition to speed workflow, has entered an agreement with Mi-Corporation (Mi-Co (News - Alert)), a mobile forms software company.  With their reseller networks, nVoq and Mi-Co, the companies will deliver voice-enabled versions of templates for the home health and long-term care industries like OASIS or MDS.  Additionally, the companies will develop voice-enabled e-Forms for other healthcare settings.

"For those organizations seeking to improve compliance and reduce the burden of data entry for nurses in particular, the combination of Mi-Co's Mi-Forms coupled with nVoq's SayIt affordable voice engine provides a unique value proposition," said Charles Corfield, CEO and founder of nVoq, in a statement.  “Together, we can create a streamlined workflow that greatly minimizes the amount of manual effort needed to complete forms like OASIS.”

Having been endorsed by the American Hospital Association for speech recognition, SayIt is Web-based speech recognition software that uses Microsoft (News - Alert) Speech Application Programming Interface to quickly and accurately capture data while automating workflow. Additionally,  SayIt is currently deployed in a variety of healthcare settings across the U.S., in support of EMR and other clinical documentation.

“Nurses can use voice or an automated pen to enter data directly into a template at the point of care,” continued Corfield. “That same data is then available for quality review and submission for reimbursement within seconds.”

These days, organizations that rely on these voice-enabled mobile forms for reimbursement need quick, accurate turnaround.

"The ability to make a real impact on caregiver productivity and morale is exciting for us," said Greg Clary, CEO and co-founder of Mi-Co.  “Using SayIt, we not only automate the form itself, but can use voice to script the flow of responses so less time is needed to complete each page.
