Nuance (News - Alert) Communications, Inc., a global provider of voice and language solutions for businesses and consumers including speech recognition, has launched version 2.0 of its PaperPort Notes app for the Apple (News - Alert) iPad, introducing the ability to capture text from an image taken with the iPad camera and instantly transforming the words into notes.

“Nuance is changing how people get work done by allowing them to capture and manage information in the most efficient way possible – anywhere, anytime,” said Michael Rich (News - Alert), senior vice president and general manager of the Nuance Document Imaging Division, in a statement.

With a tap of a finger, PaperPort makes it easy to take text from a picture, PowerPoint presentation, business card, receipt, or a handout.

PaperPort Notes 2.0 is the most complete digital notetaking app on the market as it’s the only app that combines voice, text and image recognition. Earlier this year, PaperPort Notes incorporated Nuance’s Dragon Dictation technology to become the first iPad app to allow users to create notes by speaking.

The Nuance app can create handwritten, typed and dictated notes, making it a popular notetaking app of professional, academic as well as home users. The app supports accessing and saving documents from cloud services including PaperPort Anywhere, Box (News - Alert), Google Docs and DropBox. Additionally, users can highlight documents and combine pages of documents from the cloud and the Web.

Key features of Nuance’s PaperPort Notes include:

  • Capture content using the Apple iPad 2 or 3 camera
  • Quickly create typed, handwritten, dictated notes or photo-captured notes
  • Annotate and highlight documents and notes, and add sticky notes
  • Add page-specific audio within notes
  • Combine documents stored in cloud-based document sharing services
  • Capture and save content from the Web
  • Reorganize, delete, copy pages, and edit bookmarks
  • Search and navigate quickly through notes
  • Share documents as PDF files using e-mail and as cloud-based document sharing services

“With PaperPort Notes, iPad users never need to miss another detail because it is too difficult or time consuming to grab the information, greatly enhancing their note-taking experience,” said Rich.

Nuance PaperPort Notes is currently available as a free download in the Apple App Store.
